Welcome Message From The Pastor
Welcome to the First Baptist Church website. We are glad that you have chosen to visit our website and that you will want to meet us in person. You will find here information about who we are, about our various ministries, and contact information.
First Baptist is a church with a long and notable history. The church was constituted in 1884 and moved to its present location at 23 Startling Avenue in the 1960's. This year (2009) we are celebrating our 125th Anniversary. While it is interesting to look back to the past, our Vision is toward the present and future. The theme for our Anniversary Year is "Celebrating The Past--Living The Present--Embracing The Future!"
The church's Mission Statement is as follows "The Congregation of First Baptist Church, led by the Holy Spirit, convenants to worship Almighty God and to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Consistent with the Great Commission, We share our spiritual gifts beyond our doors with enthusiasm, generousity, and grace."
A local church is a group of people bound together by the love of God and their commitment to Jesus Christ. As a community of faith we are involved in the spiritual disciplines of worshipping, learning, fellowshipping, witnessing, and ministring. In worship we glorify God and acknowledge His worthiness. Through individual and group Bible study and training we grow in an understanding of His Word. Through fellowship we come together to better know one another and share life together. We witness in obedience to Christ's commission to us. Ministering is recognizing the helping gifts God has given us and investing them sacrificially in areas of need.
On behalf of our church family, let me extend an invitation to you to come and be involved in the worship and ministry of our church. A good way to begin to know us is through radio. Our services are broadcast live each Sunday morning at 11 o'clock a.m. over WMVA, 1450 AM. If we can answer any questions you have about our church of if we can be of service to you, please contact us by one of the ways provided on this website.
My God bless you and shower His grace upon you today!
Dennis Knight, Pastor
